D2 Entrepreneur Visa

The D2 Visa, better known as the residence visa for entrepreneurs, is intended for entrepreneurs who wish to undertake in Portugal and invest in the country. With it, it is possible to obtain a Residence Permit to legally live and work in the country, move freely in the European Schengen Area (26 European countries) and, after 5 years of residence in Portugal, you can apply for Portuguese nationality (dual citizenship).

Who can apply for the D2 visa?

The D2 Portugal Visa can be requested by foreigners who:

  • Intend to open a business in the country and demonstrate that they have the financial capacity to make this investment;
  • Self-employed workers who already have a business in the country but have not yet applied for a visa or who have a contract/work proposal within the scope of a liberal profession.

How does the D2 Visa work?

By acquiring the D2 Visa, for a period of 4 months, you will be authorized to enter Portugal. After this period, you can apply for a 1-year Residence Permit. The authorization can be renewed for periods of 2 years, as long as you prove that you continue to carry out professional activities.

What are the requirements for the D2 Visa?

The requirements are defined according to the applicant’s situation, depending on whether he intends to work as an entrepreneur or as a self-employed professional.

For entrepreneurial immigrants, one of these requirements must be met:

  • Have carried out an investment operation in Portugal;
  • Demonstrate having financial means in the country or demonstrate the intention to make an investment in the country;
  • Prove the economic, social, scientific, technological or cultural relevance of your investment for the country.

The creation of jobs: is it mandatory?

The company may only be constituted by its partners or partners since the law does not require a minimum number of jobs to be created for the granting of this type of visa.
